2018 Shihu Garden Intangible Heritage Carnival

On the morning of Sep. 30, 2018, the grand “2018 Shihu Garden Intangible Heritage Carnival” was opened in Shihu Garden Block of Weifang! Meanwhile, dozens of activities begin, including Licensing Ceremony of National Weishui Cultural and Ecological Protection Trial Pilot- Shihu Garden Intangible Heritage Space, Special Gourmet Festival, Intangible Heritage Cultural and Creative Bazaar, China Joint Exhibition of Walnut Sculpturing Arts, the 1st Shandong Documentary Photography Exhibition, free diagnosis service, poverty relief with culture, folk arts shows, parent-child interactive experience at the site of intangible heritage, and autumn exchanges of antiques. On the same day, leaders and guests such as Sun Lijun, Director General of Weifang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Film and Television, News and Publications, Wang Yuepu, Chairman and GM of Weifang Investment Group Co., Ltd., Wu Fadong, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Weicheng District Party Committee and Director of Propaganda Department, Zhu Hongchi, Vice GM of Weifang Investment Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Weifang Shihu Garden Cultural Operation and Management Co., Ltd., Qiu Zhaofeng, Curator of Weifang Municipal Cultural Center and Director of Municipal Intangible Heritage Protection Center, Fan Xinjian, President of Weifang Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, Wang Ren, Director General of Weicheng District Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Film and Television, News and Publications and Li Wei, GM of Weifang Shihu Garden Cultural Operation and Management Co., Ltd., as well as over 1,000 members from all walks of life, including intangible heritage inheritors, attended the opening ceremony which was presided over by Li Yilong, a Grade-IV Investigator from Weifang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Film and Television, News and Publications.
Sun Lijun, Director General of Weifang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Film and Television, News and Publications, awarded the Shihu Garden Cultural Block the license (made of metal in a board form) of “National Weishui Cultural and Ecological Protection Trial Pilot- Shihu Garden Intangible Heritage Space”, Zhu Hongchi, Vice GM of Weifang Investment Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Weifang Shihu Garden Cultural Operation and Management Co., Ltd., received the license.

Sun Lijun, Director General of Weifang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Film and Television, News and Publications, and Wang Yuepu, Chairman and GM of Weifang Investment Group Co., Ltd., added the finishing touch to wake up the lion.
After the ceremony, leaders and guests visited the carnival to experience the busy atmosphere on the site.
Following the theme of “Gathering All Essences of Intangible Heritage, and Enjoying a Tour of Culture at Home”, the activity combines the National Day with culture, intangible heritage, photography, food, free-of-charge diagnosis, and poverty relief, to present all citizens and tourists in Weifang a feast of “food, beverage, games and funs”.
The best part of the activity, “Skills of Hundreds of Craftsmen” Intangible Heritage Cultural and Creative Bazaar exhibits and sells various intangible heritage articles embodying traditional life habits and highlighting folk customs, such as rosewood works embedded with silver decorations, decorative articles of New Year panting, traditional Laomao festive lanterns, Weifang embroidery products, Gaomi tiger shoes, Binzhou coarse cloth, silk bandhnu, Fangyuan paper cutting, Weifang flour sculpture, painting on bottle gourd, grass/ withy weaving, and cloth toys, etc. Meanwhile, inheritors will present creative exhibitions and shows at the site.
For the “Poverty Relief with Culture” Exhibition and Sales Activities of Agricultural Products during the Carnival, the “Best Secretary” from Anqiu Shibuzi Rural Cooperatives shed tears when interviewed because of his excitement.
Moreover, “Color Intangible Heritage” Folk Customs and Arts Shows are also presented. Traditional operas and folk dances such as Elevating “Xinzi”, acrobatics, Mao opera, face changing, kylin dance from Wazi Village, bamboo horse from Xiaozhang Village, playing with butterfly, and shuttlecocks kicking from Qingzhou, diabolo, tom-tom of Anqiu East Road, and tom-tom of Changyi Xihe are presented on the Grand Stage and Central Square of Wenchang Pavilion, and by the south gate of the Block.
Traditional and featured foods from the local, such as Muslim Sauced Beef, and Longsheng Cake from Qingzhou, Nuanjia Cake, Linqu Mutton, Zhucheng Barbecue, Fuguozhuang Mustard Chicken, Wangliu Donkey, Gaomi Steamed Bread, Maosong Cake, Wanggao Tiger Chicken, Shouguang Fruit and Vegetable Slices, Beijing Roast Duck, Changle Chuntang Cake with Eight Treasures, and Cui’s Fine Grinded Sesame Oil, and from other places such as Chongqing Style Boiled Blood Curd, Bang Bang Chicken, Chicken with Pericarpium Zanthoxyli Schinifolii, Fried Pig Tripe Slices, Roasted Cold Noodle and Candy Painting, Sugar Figure, Marshmallow and Popcorn are presented on the same stage. Other activities such as Poverty Relief with Culture in Qingzhou and Anqiu, Exhibition and Sales of Special Agricultural Products, and Free-of-charge Diagnosis as a part of the Medical Science in intangible heritage, “South and North Styles” China Joint Exhibition of Walnut Sculpturing Arts, and Shandong Documentary Photography Exhibition are carried out.
Meanwhile, to ensure every citizen has the change to pray for blessing during the National Day, from Oct. 1 to 3, the Memorial Temple of Lord Guan will be opened to the public freely.
