Sense of new year. We always talk about it, but what does it mean on earth? Today, let’s go with Xiaoxiao to have an experience of it in Weifang.
Today we are in Yangjiabo Folk Arts Park of Hanting District, Weifang City, Shandong Province.
Yangjiabu Folk Arts Park covers a total area of 160,000 square meters with over 10 scenic spots and exhibition halls.

Stepping into the scenic spot, a 5-storey tower came into my eyes, named Wenrun Pavilion.
Bypassing it I found my destination today: Yangjiabo Kite Museum.
Weifang is the world cradle of kites, and kites produced here are always a treasure in the traditional handicrafts of Weifang, Shandong, and a folk traditional festival and cultural custom.
Kites can be divided into six categories: string type, bucket type, hard wing, soft wing, plate type and flexible type.
Hard-winged kite, also known as “Kite with Yuanbao Wings”, is the most distinctive and typical traditional kite in China.
Stringed kite involves very complicated fabrication processes and has great ornamental value as a traditional Chinese kite.
Stunting kite flies with the help of wind after experiencing the force on its backbone via the “wheel”. It is also called “flexible kite”.
In addition to the different classes, most of the kites in Weifang have very clear themes.
They are shaped in diversified formed according to ancient and folk stories based on figures and animals in them.
Therefore, kites in Weifang are complicated and various in pattern and structure.
In addition to different classes, those kites are also grouped by themes from different regions.
This is a figure stunting kite as tall as a real human. It is so vivid that I’m attracted.
After leaving the Yangjiabu Kite Museum, I found myself in the Museum of New Year Painting after going through an ancient long street.
For many people, kite in Weifang is always famous, but little did they know about its New Year painting.
Yangjiabu has been one of the three places of origins of Chinese New Year Painting on wood plates. The other two are Yangliuqing in Tianjin and Taohuawu in Suzhou.
Entering into the Museum of New Year Painting, it seems that New Year has arrived. Red lanterns are hung high and couplets pasted on both sides with a large Chinese character “Fu” (Blessing) right in the middle.
Differing from others, the Yangjiabu Museum of New Year Painting is designed in a traditional quadrangle form.
All exhibits are suspended in the rooms instead of showcases.
According to farmers’ ideological requirements, folk customs and faith, aesthetic viewpoints and gradual development in living needs, the Yangjiabu New Year Painting on wood plate has formed its ancient, simple, elegant, and distinctive style.
Based on where they are posted, the Yangjiabu New Year Painting on wood plate can be classified into door god, central hall, etc., or praying, greeting auspiciousness, mountains, waters, flowers, rare birds and beasts according their themes, etc.
Behind the Museum many New Year paintings with commemorative value are sold.
In addition to the Kite Museum and Museum of New Year Painting I have introduced just now, there is also the Film and TV Shooting Base, and the Shopping Street which opens during the New Year.
