Weifang Fairs development started in the 1980s, sped up in the 1990s, growing prosperity since 2000 and transformed after 2010. The first session Weifang International Kite Festival in 1984 noted the beginning of Weifang fairs. Shandong-Taiwan Trade Fair in 1994 and China Shouguang (International) Vegetable Expo in 2000 were held successfully marked that Weifang fairs had formed the "three events" pattern. After 2010, the fairs focus transformed from celebration to the exchanging exhibition and trade. Weifang fairs have played a great role in building Weifang city brand, Speeding up the opening of Weifang, Promoting comprehensive and coordinated economy and society.

Since 2000, a boom in Weifang fairs, Kite Festival, Shandong-Taiwan Trade Fair and Vegetable Expo three top events established their brands, expanding their influence constantly, thereby drove surrounding counties and districts to set up their own typical fairs on their own advantages.

Based on a good flower planting foundation, in 2001, Qingzhou City launched out the China (Qingzhou) Flower Expo successfully. The expo mission is "holding one event to strengthen one industry, to stimulate rural economy and to enrich millions farmers. The first session of Flower Expo was held from October 3 to October 7,2001 in Wanhong Flower Trading Hall, Huanglou Town, Qingzhou City. The expo set a total of 12 trading areas which separated into the flower, bonsai, root carving and so on, attracted more than 4000 merchants from home and abroad, presented a total of 14 series and 1,300 varieties. As of 2016, 16 sessions have been successfully held. The expo upgraded from a area fair, to a provincial level activity, and to a national event. The Fair is growing better and bringing more benefits, meanwhile the brand of "City of Oriental flower" has gotten well-known.

Changle held the first China (Changle) International Gemstone Festival in 2002 Based on abundant sapphire resources.The Festival is divided into three exhibition areas: jewelry, tourist commodities and handicrafts, ceramics, called up 240 jewelry companies, tourism agencies and manufacturers from nearly 20 provinces and cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Thailand and South Korea. The exhibits are involving sapphire, ruby, diamond, exotic gemstones. A total of 20 categories of more than 500 varieties and thousands of styles were displayed and turnover of 60 million yuan has been gotten. The Festival has developed into a large comprehensive jewelry industry event that integrates culture, commerce and tourism, not only brings economic fruitful results to Changle City, but also greatly promotes Changle Jewelry internationally.

Changyi City has a systematic seedling planting industry. According to the strategy of "building platform, promoting communication, building brand, widening market and strengthening industry ", Changyi City held China (Changyi) North Greening Seedling Expo in 2003, and has successfully held 16 sessions as of 2020. Changyi City designed out the specialized exhibition with its featured industry, promoted the industry development with the exhibition, and upgraded a regional exhibition into a international exhibition.  Changyi city has built its brand of seedling, and promoted the rapid development and growth of the seedling industry.

Hanting District is the hometown of Chinese New Year Pictures. Yangjiabu woodblock Chinese New Year Pictures is one of the three major Chinese New Year Pictures in China. Yangjiabu kite is one of the top four kite schools in China. In 2004, Hanting District founded Yangjiabu Kite and Chinese New Year Pictures Art Festival based on the local folk culture which represented by kites and paintings. the Yangjiabu Art Festival displayed a new image of Hanting and carried forward the excellent folk culture, meanwhile promoted local folk culture tourism. Hanting District also founded Weixian Green Daikon Fair in 2008 to promote the development of local daikon related industries.

Zhucheng and Gaomi are the model cities for taking advantages of celebrity effect . "Shun was born in Zhufeng ", Zhucheng is" the hometown of Emperor Shun ". Since 2009, the Chinese (Zhucheng) Dashun Culture Day has been held annually in order to further excavate Dashuns culture.Gaomi is hometown of Mo Yan, the Nobel Prize winner in literature. Mos novel "Red Sorghum ", based on his hometown story, has caused extensive and profound influence in Chinese literary field. With the influence of Mo Yan and Red Sorghum Culture, Gaomi City set up the Chinese (Gaomi) Red Sorghum Culture Festival in 2010. With the help of the festival, both Zhucheng and Gaomi have made a great progresses all-around, especially in the cultural tourism industry.

Since 2010, Weifang held the China Art Festival and China (Weifang) Culture and Art Fair, and China-Japan-ROK Industrial Exposition, once again assisted to upgrade Weifang fame. These two events was launched for display and trade at first, with obvious characteristics of the economic exhibition.

These fairs are green, economic, and prospective. Driven by Weifang International Kite Festival, Shandong-Taiwan Trade Fair, Shouguang International Vegetable Expo and other branded gatherings, Weifang has made remarkable achievements, almost every county, city and district has its own famous fairs. The festival will play an increasingly important role in creating city image and promoting economic, cultural and social development.
