Weifang ICH Project is unveiled in a series of theme press conference

On September 14, Weifang held a series of press conference on the theme of "Promoting Shandong to be fairly well-off all-roundly" in Jinan. Liu Yun, deputy Secretary of Weifang Municipal Party Committee and mayor, presented Weifang's historic achievements on how to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way. Subsequently Wei Changmin, deputy Minister of publicity Department of Shandong Province, Liu Yun,Weifang City Mayor, and other leaders visited Weifang Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition area and gave unanimous praise, accompanied by Quan Wensong, Director of Weifang Culture and Tourism Bureau.

Weifang, with its profound historical and cultural heritage, is the core birthplace of Dongyi culture, an important branch of Chinese civilization, where blended Qi culture, Lu culture, Marine civilization and agricultural civilization, as Liu introduced. Weifang Qingzhou has been playing an important role in the historical and cultural map of China since Dayu period. Its craft had been flourishing since the Ming and Qing Dynasties , today Weifang is a well- known world kite city, international power city, international peace city and national civilized city.

Weifang is one of seven state-level Culture Ecology Protection Areas, the sole one in Shandong province. Its long history, rich resources, outstanding ICH and humanity features are vividly depicted in this rhyme ,” thousands copper blacksmiths are striking surround hundreds stoves , thousands embroiderers are busying on ten thousand looms”. In the exhibition area, Weifang intangible Cultural Heritage food and handicraft products attracted many attentions. There are three thematic areas, Weifang Kite, Yangjiabu New Year wood-block prints, and Guqin and its music, each of them is wonderful and unique with full of Weifang flavor.

At the entry of ICH exhibition, background wall is imitation of Kuiwen Gate, one of Weifang’s landmark buildings, red big doors means the open mind and welcome to visitors, the sides of area designed on base of dragon head centipede images, the thematic areas all are extending kites images.

At the site, Linqu mutton, Cui’s sesame oil, Hengsheng Zhai dim sum, Zhucheng’s green tea, Zhucheng’s barbecue, Shouguang’s vegetables, Linqu’s pancake, Weifang’s pork tacos(Chao Tian Guo), Nangong Hele noodles, Longsheng cakes, mountain fruit wine, Gaomi’s steam bun, Jingzhi liquor and other intangible cultural heritage food attract numerous praise.

A performance and interaction section has been set up in the ICH exhibition area. Under the display screen with the door god of Yangjiabu Wood-block New Year paintings as the background, inheritors of Weifang peach stone carving, rosewood ware with silver inlaid, silk, Zhucheng Guqin and other representative ICH projects are performing their skills one after another to show the unique charm of Weifang bright intangible cultural heritage to the audience.

It is reported recent years, Weifang is promoting and publicizing ICH by vivid practices which stands on the base of ICH preservation, with the directions of the state-level cultural and ecological conservation areas.
