News of Qilu News from Weifang on Apr. 27 On Apr. 27, the 11th China (Shandong) Crafts and Arts Exposition, the 2nd “Belt ad Road” Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition, and the Kite Culture Cultural and Creative Works Exhibition were held in Weifang, the “World Capital of Kite” in Shandong Province. National and provincial masters of crafts and arts, sister provinces and cities, provincial associations, enterprise sand practitioners of crafts and arts gathered in Weifang to celebrate the cultural festival of “Shandong Crafts and Arts”, to talk about the inheritance and revitalization of Shandong skills, and to share the achievements of Shandong in reform and development of crafts and arts on the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of New China.
Supports from multiple parties to boos the cross-over development of crafts and arts industry
The opening ceremony was attended by Chen Qiang, the Second-level Inspector of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and the captain of the Rural Revitalization Service Team of Feixian County at the provincial order, Su Like, the Chairman of the Weifang Municipal CPPCC and the Secretary-General of the Party Group, Liu Jianguo, the Vice Mayor of the Standing Committee of CPC Weifang Municipal Committee, and its Secretary General, Wang Zhijie, the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Crafts and Arts Association, Pu Yongxiang, Vice President of the China Ceramic Industry Association, Ma Xiang, Assistant Director of the Industrial Culture Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Sun Mingliang, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Weifang Municipal National People’s Congress, Vice Secretary and Vice Director of the Party Group, Qiu Qingsen, Secretary and Director of the Party Group of the Shandong Light Industry Federation, Yuan Zonggui, Chairman of the Committee of Shandong Light Industry and Textile Trade Union, Xing Rongrui, Vice Director General of Shandong Social Organization Administration, Liu Bin, President of Openings, Ge Yuzhi, Director of Academic Department of Shandong Science and Technology Association, Li Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of Provincial National People’s Congress, Vice President of China Auction Industry Association and Chairman of Shandong Auction Industry Association, Jin Xiaohua, Secretary-General of China Light Industry Jewelry Center, Li Fuchen, Deputy Director of Weifang Industrial Promotion and Development Center, and the responsible workers of local cooperation (offices), associations, societies and professional committees, etc. The opening ceremony was presided over by Yuan Min, President of Shandong Crafts and Arts Association.
This exhibition was co-sponsored by Shandong Crafts and Arts Association, Shandong Crafts and Arts Society and Weifang International Kite Office with special supports from China Crafts and Arts Association, and jointly organized by Shandong Institute of Crafts and Arts, municipal associations (societies) of crafts and arts and special professional committees (branches) of provincial associations of crafts and arts, Shndong Society of Crafts and Arts, Shandong Association of Crafts and Arts as well as Weifang Society of Crafts and Arts.
As the cultural festival of the highest level in Shandong industry of crafts and arts, the 4-day exhibition included 800 standard booths on a total area of almost 17,000 square meters to exhibit about 2,000 outstanding exhibits of craft carving (micro carving, jade carving, wood carving and stone carving, etc.), lacquerware, jewellery, in-bottle painting, colored glaze, redware, artistic ceramics, metal artworks, artistic rosewood furniture, silk embroidery, carpet and tapestry, folk artworks, weaving works with natural plant fiber, craft flower painting, arts gifts, folk tourism commodities and those from other specifies, of intangible heritage type, and cultural and creative type.
Forging Ahead for a Bright Name Card of “Crafts and Arts in Shandong”
Arts and crafts are the splendid treasures in outstanding Chinese culture, and a major element of Shandong Province, which carries the long history of development and rich cultural accumulation of Qilu. At present, Shandong is speeding up the construction of a strong modern province with material wealth, spiritual wealth, harmony and beauty in the new era with focus on “waking at the front, innovating comprehensively”. The CPC Provincial Committee and Provincial Government have issued a series of cultivation and supporting policies to forcefully support the protection of traditional cultural industry, development of traditional skills and promotion of the inheritance and revitalization of crafts and arts. At present, 3 Asia-Pacific crafts masters, 20 Chinese crafts and arts masters, 366 Shandong crafts and arts masters and other high-end talents in this circle have been output to support the inheritance and innovation of local traditional skills, the development and growth of crafts and arts.
Over 1,000 unique, beautiful and high-quality crafts and arts products jointly form a bright name card representing the “Crafts and Arts of Shandong”, which shows what we have achieved in the crafts and arts industry and cultural undertakings of Shandong at the 70th anniversary of founding of the New China and in the 40 years of reform and opening, to grant everyone a chance to experience the profound background of traditional culture and unique charm of crafts and arts in Shandong.
Abundant Contents Establish a New Platform for Industrial Innovation and Development
“Belt & Road” Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition: as properties shared by all human beings, intangible cultural heritage reflect the distinctive characteristics of an age, a country and a region. The exhibition further acknowledges, shows respects to, inherits and upholds the intangible cultural heritage of Shandong along the “Belt & Road”. Let’s bet the advocator and broadcaster of intangible cultural heritage together.
National Cultural and Creative Works Exhibition on Kite Culture: to further excavate the brand value of the World Capital of Kites, carry forward the positive kite culture, promote the cross-field integrated development of kite culture industry, all have been sufficiently embodied in this area.
The 2nd China (Weifang) Traditional Kite Fabrication Competition: it is required that all works shall go through the whole processes of fabricating, pasting and painting, and be able to fly into the sky successfully (except for Dragon String Kite). It is of great significance to improve the traditional kite fabrication skills, inherit and carry forward kite culture, and promote the prosperity and development of kite industry.
Skills demonstration by masters in crafts and arts, and folk arts inheritors: inheritors of flour sculpturing, embroidery, colored glaze lamps, walnut sculpturing, hard engraving on black pottery, paper cutting, and gold engraving paintings are specially invited to demonstrate their skills on the site, so that we can experience the unique charms of fabrication skills and traditional culture, and be more interactive and participating.
Shandong Crafts and Arts 2017/2018 Recommendation, Identification, Exhibition and Popularization of High-quality Works: those works are closely related to the creation cores of “profound thinking, sophisticated arts, superior fabrication”, and the vessels of the age to highlight the styles of the new era. Those works are characterized by novel ideas, sophisticated skills and innovative awareness. Only original works between 2017 and the end of 2018 are accepted subject to the time indicated via the stamp, and those works shall be free of any infringement of others’ IP rights.
Summit of Industry of Crafts and Arts: Chen Anying, the Director, Permanent Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the Department of Art History, School of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, and the Administrative Deputy Director of Key Lab on Research of Traditional Processes and Materials of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is invited to discuss the Way to Re-energize the Traditional Processes of China with practitioners. To inherit and make innovation in traditional processes, new ideas shall be introduced into the new era when we are considering a road to re-energize the traditional processes, so that the creator achieves ideological promotion and skills improvement.
Lectures on Intellectual Property Protection in Crafts and Arts and Patent Application Consulting: protecting intellectual property is conducive to mobilizing the enthusiasm in crafts and arts creation, and is committed to protecting the intellectual achievements of the obligee in the cultural creation; patent application is also a protection of the creative achievements of the creator. It helps practitioners in crafts and arts industry enhance their awareness of protecting intellectual properties and patents.
Selection of awards during the expo: we shall begin with transforming concepts to consolidate the guidance on strategic design innovation, on enterprises and individuals engaged in design innovation. By selection and awarding, the extensive exchange amongst the industry, masters and practitioners is enhanced that they can learn from each other, and be more motivated for innovation. In this way, both the reputation of practitioners at all levels and value added to their works are comprehensively improved.
