Based on a profound cultural background, Weifang is not only the “Chinese Capital of Painting” but also “The Capital of Treasures” that since ancient times, many intangible heritages have taken roots on the land of Capital of Kites. As the “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” (Jun. 8) is approaching, to create a good atmosphere for protecting cultural heritage, motivate all citizens participating in, caring and protecting cultural heritage, and enhance the cultural heritage protection awareness of the whole society, the Cultural Heritage Exhibition and Show of “Protecting Intangible Heritage, Our Responsibility” will be arranged in Shihu Garden of Weifang. At then, a feast of intangible heritage will be presented in front of us in a visual and audio manner.

The reporters learned that the inheritance of intangible heritage cant be separated from the broad participation of the masses. This activity will focus on the excellent intangible cultural heritage of Weishui Cultural and Ecological Protection Trial Pilot through exhibition, leisure experience, training and research, combined with the construction of Shihu Garden Intangible Heritage Space. Aiming to provide a centralized display platform for many local intangible heritage cultures in Weifang, a recruitment order was issued to the majority of intangible heritage inheritors, which reads that all excellent intangible heritage projects focusing on outstanding folk customs and performances, reflecting traditional life customs, highlighting folk styles, and popular amongst citizens can be displayed in the Cultural Block of Shihu Garden free of charge.

Till May 22, about 20 applications have been received, including Weifang Traditional Copy Process, Weifang Traditional Kite Making Skills, Drama Mask Making Skills, Ancient Coin Making Skills, Festive Lantern Making Skills, Wire Reel Making Skills, Form and Will Boxing, and Huangjiazhuang Clay Sculpture.

It is also learned that the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day comes from the Cultural Heritage Day since 2006, and is celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of June each year. In 2017, the Cultural Heritage Day was renamed as Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. This year, it follows the theme of Protecting Intangible Heritage, Practicing in China with the slogan of All Details in Our People, Our Objects and Our LifeUphold in Life, Innovate in PracticeInherit the Cultural Essence, Co-build Our FutureProtecting Intangible Heritage, Our Responsibility. By concentrated exhibition of intangible heritage, more and more local citizens go closer to intangible heritage to understand them, to feel them, so that the treasures our ancestors have left to us will be carried forward and never disappear.
