On Apr. 10, the Promotion Class for Young Artists Learning Skills of Lacquerware Embedded with Silver was held in Weifang for 30 young practitioners, fans, and inheritors of Weifang lacquerware embedded with silverThe three-month training will be another tradition arts re-energization plan after the 9,000 Embroiders” Training Project of Weifang City.

 

As a representative of traditional arts in Weifang, the Lacquerware Embedded with Silver originates from the gold and silver coating of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period. It gradually develops into a unique art embedding gold and silver filaments on wood implements on the basis of copper-made industry and epigaphy in Weifang. The Lacquerware Embedded with Silver has a history of over 200 years, and once enjoyed an important position in the arts history of Weifang and even the whole country. In 2011, it was listed in the 3rd batch of national inventory of intangible cultural heritage.

The training aims to cultivate a new generation of young inheritors for Lacquerware Embedded with Silver, incorporate innovative design ideas, inherit and re-energize the traditional arts projects with Weifang features to promote the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and the construction of Weishui Cultural Ecology Protection Trial Pilot. In the mode of apprenticeship, the training class has appointed experienced provincial and municipal representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, senior practitioners and design teachers to demonstrate their skills and interact with students on the site, to teach them the history, draft design, fabrication process, maintenance and restoration of Lacquerware Embedded with Silver.

As the training class ends, an exhibition will held for works by students who attended the training class of Lacquerware Embedded with Silver, as well as training achievements. Outstanding works will be recommended to 2018 China·Weifang Traditional Arts Creative Design Competition and the 5th China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo, etc.
