From August 3rd to August 4th, Weifang, as a new designated creative city of Crafts and Folk Art, was invited to participate in the ‘International Capacity Enhancement Workshop for Artisans and Craftsmen with UNESCO Creative Cities Network (Ceramics)’ hosted by Chiang Mai that was designated as the member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Crafts and Folk Art since 2017,

Su Lijun, a fourth-level researcher of Weifang Bureau Culture and Tourism, delivered an online keynote speech to promote Weifang's cultural characteristics and shared some practices on sustainable development as a creative city.


‘International Capacity Enhancement Workshop for Artisans and Craftsmen with UNESCO Creative Cities Network (Ceramics)’ is an exchange project regarding techniques, forms, designs, and making process of ceramics, which joined by Creative Cities and those cities in Thailand that are famous for ceramics.


Li Mingyang, an associate professor of Shandong Vocational College of Science and Technology, introduced the dissemination achievements and educational achievements of traditional crafts in colleges and universities. Ma Zhiyong, deputy director of Zhucheng black pottery training institute, communicated with international experts and scholars on the splendid history and civilization of Zhucheng black pottery (also known as Yu shun black pottery) and its current inheritance and development.

In November 2021, Weifang was designated as one of UNESCO Creative Cities of Craft and Folk Art, making Weifang's handicraft step onto the broad world stage. We will take this opportunity to put the cultural creativity as an important driving force for the sustainable development of city, constantly increase the intensity of creative talents training, develop the cultural creative industry, further strengthen the cultural industry, creating arts and crafts and folk art industry chain, will upgrade Weifang crafts creativity.
